Jigging for diamonds

The gravel is placed in sieves and “jigged” up and down in the water which washes away the fines, and the denser stones, including the diamonds sink to the bottom. Once enough jigging has been done, the sieve is turned upside down and the bottom of the pile is searched for diamonds.
