United States

Born in Saskatchewan, went to medical school in Winnipeg. Then went to the US to train in psychiatry. At the end of this training period, in 1968, I went to Liberia where a faculty member had connections, to become familiar with cross-cultural psychiatry. I spent a couple of months at the mental hospital of which Mrs. Tubman, the Pesident’s wife, was the patron. It was located next to the ELWA hospital. I met with President Tubman on a few occasions and experienced the flavour of life in Liberia which President Tubman seemed to run like an old southern plantation.
