    The gentleman on the right with the hat and suit jacket and tie, and the traditional lapper, is wearing the traditional dress for men in Maryland on special occasions. My grandfather would dress like this, a mix of African and Western.

    The dancers are wearing sassas around their ankles. These were seeds threaded on strings, and they rustled as they struck one another, so that the dancers made music with their feet.
